Are you looking for an easy, DIY trophy case to display all those amazing trophies your kids have been winning? Trophy cases are a wonderful addition to the family living room, not to mention the fact that a full trophy case will drive the neighbour mad with envy.
As much as you could just simply go out and buy a trophy case, building one gives you that wonderful feeling of accomplishment, plus it will instil some work ethic into your already ‘winner’ kids. So here is what you will need:
List of tools:
18-gauge nail gun
Kreg pocket hole jig
Materials that you will need:
1/2″ lap overlay self-closing hinges
Wood glue- Screws
At this point, you will want to have a working knowledge of woodwork. The entire process involves building shelves using different wood panels. The first thing you want to do is to mark the wood panels according to the shelving requirements. Once that is done, you want to attach the necessary wood panels to their designated locations using the nail gun and nails as well as wood glue.
It is a systematic process and you should work on the bottom cabinet before going on to build the top cabinet. Once both cabinets have been attached appropriately, the next step involves building a back panel then the doors, which will include glass. This calls for a great deal of accuracy and care. Glass can be a little fragile and dangerous to work with especially if you are not an expert at this sort of thing.
Buy a put-it-together trophy case
The good thing about living in a ‘microwave society’ is that we all wants things done instantly. That means that the market has adjusted to those needs and we now have ready-to-make or ready-to-eat everything. You can walk into your favourite ‘home and decor’ or woodwork store and pick up a trophy case with all the parts already build but disassembled. Assembling these parts is just a matter of reading the instructions on the manual and you are good to go. This is something that you can do with the kids and will not require a lot of technical woodwork skills to accomplish.
No matter how you feel about woodwork, if you have family members who are winning trophies, you should take the time to build a display case for those trophies. It is a great way to acknowledge their efforts and to show them that you are proud of their achievements. Plus, a trophy display cabinet is one of those things that will come in handy when you want to sell the house. After all, everyone wants to associate with a winner.
